Description
This is a pair of traditional heishi lions paw jacla earrings. Grey oyster heishi and orange spiny oyster corn. My newest design the earrings look more beautiful in person as the combo is really nice. The colors blend so well. There is a softness to the earrings because of the colors that the camera doesn’t quite pick up. I might try and take on outside see if that brings it out.
Heishi Native Americans in the Southwest have been wearing beaded jewelry for centuries. The beaded tradition is most closely associated with Santo Domingo Pueblo, known for creating beautiful shell and gemstone beads by hand. These beads are called “heishi,” which means “shell” in the Santo Domingo language Keres.
Native American Oyster Shell Earrings Oyster shell or “Spiny Oyster Shell” earrings and jewelry have a rich history within Native American jewelry. One of the most famous styles of beaded jewelry from the Native art of Heishi beaded necklaces incorporates oyster shell and seashells, almost exclusively.
